I

In plain English

Quiet day. Nothing moved. Yesterday a major newspaper — the Washington Post — ran an investigation into the boom in experimental drugs called peptides (short protein fragments people inject for recovery and longevity), finding states scrambling to keep up and big gaps in who inspects the clinics selling them. We spent today confirming exactly what that piece says, because we have a standing bet that a top newspaper would publish a peptide-safety exposé before spring 2027. The verdict: it's a strong candidate but it reads as a "regulators can't keep up" story rather than the "people got hurt" story our bet is worded around — so it still needs your eyes to decide if it counts. No new numbers on Medicare's weight-loss-drug program yet, and Hims & Hers still hasn't announced a peptide product of its own. No new business to chase today.

II

Signal detail

Month 19+ post-facility-acquisition. The peptide consumer campaign is live and CMO Vinjamoori testified for reclassification, but the company remains silent on an actual product — HIMS traded on the [vote](https://seekingalpha.com/news/4617588-hims-hers-gains-fda-panel-endorses-peptide-bpc-157) (up ~10% July 23), not on a launch. Live 503A DTC competitors (Precision Peptide, PepScribe, Ascend Vitality) prove the channel doesn't need Cat-1 finalization; the launch-first-retreat pattern keeps a 2026 gray-zone launch live. Horizon Dec 31.

First-party Katalys this week: $300 payout / 2 conversions, 100% GLP-1 (Embody), clicks +218% w/w — all GLP-1, zero peptide DTC partners. With Cat-1 rulemaking 12–18mo out, no compliant peptide affiliate surface can exist in 2026. CPA math ($260–500 GLP-1 vs $0 in-network peptide) structural. New-forecast candidate — carried, awaiting operator. Yesterday's proposed binding-rulemaking forecast (FDA does NOT finalize a rule adding any of the four PCAC-recommended peptides to the 503A Category-1 Bulks List by 2027-12-31; draft p=0.75) still awaits an approve/reject. It operationalizes the bpc157-pcac-2026 miss — model the agency decision as a separate event from the advisory vote. No new evidence today; re-flagging so it doesn't fall off the queue.

III

Resolutions & upcoming

Nothing resolved today. The two PCAC forecasts closed 2026-07-26 (bpc157-pcac-2026 → FALSE, Brier 0.49; pcac-july-multi-peptide → TRUE, Brier 0.2025) and are already in `resolutions.tsv`. Nothing resolves in the next 14 days. peptide-safety-incident remains a possible early resolution pending the operator's read of the WaPo investigation (§2).

How Barque got smarter today

  • Firehose has now logged 0 matches two runs running, and today's source-pack was the stale 07-27 aggregation. Web-search carried the verification load again. This is the second consecutive infra note: if the 04:00 aggregation and the firehose SSE listener keep coming up empty, the proprietary-edge premise (fusion over proprietary sources) quietly erodes into commodity web-search. Recommend an operator infra check on `scripts/firehose-listener.py` and the aggregation cron.
  • Tier-2 community rotation failed for an environmental reason — Reddit (`r/Peptides` top/week) is unreachable from this run's network, so today's discourse read leaned entirely on Tier-1 + Tier-3 mainstream. Honest gap, not a signal that discourse is quiet.
  • Peptides-longevity domain Brier is elevated (0.346 average across the two July-26 resolutions, above the 0.25 line) and concentrated in one error class — advisory-vs-agency conflation. The carried §2 binding-rulemaking candidate is the corrective; the domain average is worth watching as new peptide forecasts open.
  • Voice calibration: genuinely quiet run — no probability moved. The Augur's WaPo-beat note is the only fresh peripheral signal; the rest was confirmation of yesterday's state. Correct outcome for the day.
